What Consumes Your Mind Controls Your Life
Have you ever paused for a moment to wonder what you often think about? In the contemporary society, everyone has dreams and goals. These life goals shape the way we lead our everyday lives. They practically consume your mind. For many millennials, the dreams could be to finish top of their classes, reach the pinnacle of their career, make their business the envy of all its competitors, and the list is just endless. More often than not, you keep your nose to the grindstone just to reach these goals. It gets to a point where going back on these dreams is not an option. But then, nothing good comes easy. Hence, achieving such lifelong aspirations is never possible without walking over some difficult-to-overcome challenges.
When fear consumes your mind
In a concerted effort to realize these goals, you have to surmount some challenges. These hurdles can be so overwhelming so much so that you wish you could let up. As time goes on, trepidations set in. The fear that you may not be able to overpower the daunting obstacles staring you in the face. At this point, what has happened to you is a clear-cut departure from achieving your lifelong goals to overcoming your fears. Fears manifest in several ways:
What would people say if I do not accomplish my goals?
How would the society see me if I fail?
My loved ones will lose confidence in me if I do not make it in life
I am on the verge of losing my self-worth
When anxiety consumes your mind, you begin to lose your composure. Over time, you will realize that you are gradually becoming despondent. Like a newborn whose mother has weaned off her breast, you become gloomy. You see, fear goes beyond consuming your mind, as it grips your body as well. Before long, you realize that instead of you being in charge of your life, the fear of missing out has taken over it. Now, it is practically running your life. The good thing is, there is still a glimmer of hope. Much as anxiety consumes your mind and controls your life, you can still change your narratives. According to psychological pundits, people’s response to fears could be biological and/or emotional. Regardless of where you fall into, there is always a way out of it.
Changing your narrative
A prolific writer, Roy. T. Bennett, says: “Do not be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Instead, be led by the dreams in your heart.” To overcome your concerns and actualize your dreams, you have to talk to someone. Seek help! Do you have someone who got there before you? It could be your mentor, parents, career counselor, or pastor. Share with them the dreams and the fear of not being able to actualize them. Remember, a problem shared with the right person is halved. With the right mindset, you can transform your worries to positive energy. Just before you say Jack Robinson, you are now triumphant. Sure, you have jumped over the hurdle to become that person you have always wanted to be. Without a doubt, what consumes your mind controls your life. Fear, in this context, should never one of them because the world is your oyster! Just keep in mind that there is always someone willing to walk you through that dark, scary desert. Why procrastinate? Seek help now!
